Luis Enrique Ferrer Garcia

Sentenced to 28 years in Las Tunas.

Luis Enrique Ferrer Garcia is a member of a Cuban reform group. Ferrer was a local co-coordinator for the Varela project, a petition campaign that seeks political reform on the communist-led island. A member of the Christian Liberation Movement led by Oswaldo Payá, Ferrer was given the longest sentence of all the defendants (28 years). His brother, José Daniel, also a member of the Payá committee promoting the Varela Project, was tried and sentenced to 25 years. Prosecutors had asked for life imprisonment for both.
